`Jewish event of the year’ Sunday
Jewish college students from across Iowa will meet for “the Jewish event of the year” at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, at the Beth El Synagogue, 954 Cummins Parkway in Des Moines.
The event includes a program on Judaism and pleasure, dinner and a concert. Schlock Rock, a Jewish band, will play at the concert.

Harkin will celebrate birthday in Ames
U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin will be celebrating his 62nd birthday in Ames from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at St. Johns by the Campus Episcopal Church, 2338 Lincoln Way. The event is sponsored by Citizens for Harkin and the Story County Democrats.
Cake and refreshments will be served, and Joe and the Barn Owls will provide music. Richard Seagrave, distinguished professor in chemical engineering, will be master of ceremonies.
Admission is free, with a freewill donation going to Citizens for Harkin.

Government offices to be closed Monday
Many city of Ames government offices, including City Hall, will be closed on Monday in honor of Veteran’s Day with a few exceptions. This is the list of offices that are open:
The Ames Public Library, 515 Douglas Ave., will be open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The library will be closed on Sunday.
The Community Center, 515 Clark Ave., will be open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The Resource Recovery Plant, 110 Center Ave., will be open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
CyRide buses will run on the regular weekday schedule on Monday.

Naming of director finalists postponed
The naming of finalists for the position of director of ISU Campus Dining Services has been postponed. The finalists will be announced Nov. 26.
