Fifth Beatles’ art on display

The artwork of Stuart Sutcliffe, the “fifth Beatle” who left the band in 1961, is on display in London and will be included in a bid auction in December.

Sutcliffe is known to have influenced the Beatles’ earliest musical style. He also came up with the band’s name and much of its wardrobe.

Sutcliffe died of a brain hemorrhage in 1962 when he was 21 years old.

His family put many of his artworks, letters and photographs on display in London. Mick Fleetwood, drummer for Fleetwood Mac, will be the auctioneer.

R.E.M.’s Buck goes to trial

Prosecutor Edward Lewis accused R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck of drinking 15 glasses of wine in three hours, then covering himself and a crew member with yogurt, stumbling around the plane and assaulting two other crew members while on board a British Airways flight in April.

Lewis also said Buck became stuck between seats and thought a food cart was a CD player.

Buck denied the charges.

The trial was adjourned on Monday so people in the courtroom could check on the status of friends and family in New York following the crash of Flight 587.
