Shortlist honors low-selling artists

The first annual Shortlist Awards are scheduled for Nov. 19 in Los Angeles and nominees include British crooner PJ Harvey, Nikka Costa, funky animated group Gorillaz and R&B newcomer Bilal. The winner of the Shortlist prize will receive $10,000.

Shortlist Awards are meant to recognize musicians whose albums have sold less than 500,000 copies, yet have garnered favorable nods from critics.

Shortlist judges include Aimee Mann, Beck, Mos Def and Macy Gray.

Ex-Bizkit member forms new band

Wes Borland, former Limp Bizkit guitar player, has started a new band called Eat the Day, which features the same lineup as his last solo project, Big Dumb Face.

Borland also has another side band, Goatslayer, which plans to release new material sometime next year.

Limp Bizkit has not named a new guitarist yet.

Tupac DVD in the works

Tupac fans don’t have to wait much longer for more material from the former rap star. “Thug Angel: The Life and Times of Tupac Shakur,” a DVD featuring never-before-seen footage and interviews, is scheduled for release in March of 2002. It will be the first DVD released by QD3 Entertainment in collaboration with Image Entertainment. The two companies plan to release 11 more hip-hop-related videos.

HBO to hold fifth season of `Sex’

After winning the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series, “Sex and the City,” will run its fifth season on the cable network HBO.

“Sex and the City” starring Sarah Jessica Parker, had been nominated twice before, but was awarded its first Emmy on Sunday night, making it the first cable series to win for Outstanding Comedy.

Even without the win, HBO said it had already planned to run the series another season.
