“Hardball” case thrown out
A federal judge has thrown out a defamation lawsuit against Paramount Pictures. Robert Muzikowski filed the $11 million suit against the movie “Hardball.” He claimed its Little League coach, played by Keanu Reeves, was modeled after him.
The judge said he dismissed the suit because the coach could have been created in the likeness of anyone.
In the film, Reeves’ character coaches an inner-city Little League team to pay a gambling debt. Muzikowski coaches for philanthropic reasons.
Franklin files suit against Star tabloid
Aretha Franklin has filed suit against the tabloid Star for publishing an article titled “Aretha Franklin Drinking Herself into Grave.” The story said Franklin canceled concerts and had health problems due to excessive drinking.
Franklin is seeking $50 million in damages.
Spokespeople for Star had no comment Thursday.
Creed No. 2 debut of 2001
With the No. 1 debut its newest album “Weathered,” Creed captured the title of second-best debut of the year. Over 887,000 copies of “Weathered” were sold during its first week. ‘N Sync’s “Celebrity” sold 1.9 million during its debut week.
This is Creed’s second No. 1 debut, as “Human Clay” hit the top in 1999.
Garth Brooks, who held the No. 1 spot last week, dropped to No. 4.
