LETTER:A “thank you” to Blaine Moyle
November 15, 2001
I have to give a heartfelt thank you to Blaine Moyle for his column, “Celebrate the slaughter of innocents” in the Nov. 13th Daily. I have to give Blaine a heartfelt “thank-you.” As a Native American I am personally appalled at the amount of ignorance spewed out by the public school system in regards to the truth behind such `holidays’ as Thanksgiving and Columbus Day. I mourn the loss of those who came before me and applaud Blaine Moyle for his insight into these ridiculously based holidays.
For me, Thanksgiving is only an excuse to eat until it hurts and spend time watching football with the family. I pray for those lost to `colonialism.’ I do not lay blame on those of European descent. I am not racist or prejudiced. My people have a long, accurate memory. So must everyone. “If you forget the past, you are doomed to repeat it” – kind of an appropriate quote, don’t you think?
