LETTER:Daily tells only part of FFA Degree story

Aaron Brand

First of all, I would like to congratulate all of the 2001 American FFA Degree recipients on their accomplishment, but next I would like to point out what I may call a huge oversight by Matthew Lischer and those involved in creating the Nov. 6 article, “Collegiate FFA Offers Regional Experience.”

As Mr. Lischer stated, “Seven ISU students, including Lansman and Sponheim, received the American Degree award while at the convention, which is the `highest honor’ in FFA, Lansman said.” I would have to say that maybe only seven people from the Collegiate FFA chapter received this honor, but an outstanding 26 others, including myself, from Iowa who are attending Iowa State also received this honor.

More research should have been done to protect from errors such as this. I believe that all of us who have not been named deserve the proper recognition, just as the seven named in this article have been given.

I apologize to anyone left off from other states. The 26 from the state of Iowa, which can be found at www.ffa.org, include: James Abbas, Amber Borcherding, Aaron Brand, Richard Faris, Nicki Guenther, Ryan Head, Caleb Hoakison, Dustin Hoeft, Ryan Holthaus, Jon Jacobs, Dan Johnson, Bryden Jones, Andrew Krogman, Brandon Meitner, Mark Mommsen, Erica Robertson, Emily Rottinghaus, Angela Schlader, Tyler Smith, Peter Sorensen, Shawn Sponheim, Joel Strand, Jesse Wegner, Valerie Weis, Brent Wessel, and Amber Wiebbecke. Congratulations to all of you.
