Thanks to the Daily for covering Howard Zinn well. It’s important, especially in wartime, to promote a discourse about the nation’s decisions, even among people who may agree. Another of Friday’s articles about the pressure on campuses against doubting our government’s statements reemphasizes that point.

The times when we need to protect free speech the most is when we think everyone is “united.” Many at Zinn’s talk were challenged to rethink positions they had taken for granted. Whatever Americans decide to do, we need to be thoughtful about it, so we need to promote discussion from every angle.
