Eleven local bands will rock the residence halls Saturday in a benefit concert, hosted by the Inter-Residence Hall Association, to raise money for the children of victims of the Sept. 11 attacks.

The concerts, which will take place from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. in the Knapp-Storms Commons, the Maple-Willow-Larch Commons and the Friley Terrace Room, will feature several types of music to draw as many audience members as possible, said David Boike, IRHA vice president.

“We hope to get a big turnout,” he said. “Every person that could come would help the cause.”

Tickets are $2, and free transportation will be provided among the different venues, Boike said.

“If the music at one place isn’t to your liking, you can ride the shuttle to the next place,” he said.

The Richardson Court Association will host Argos, 8 Miles Out and Keepers of the Carpet. The Towers Residence Association will host Nundown, Hog Mallet, Max Power and Mechanistry. The Union Drive Association will host Twistin Trees, Saving Andy Bell, The Rock Band and Little Mojo.

Paul Duncan, IRHA president, said the concert has been in the works since shortly after the attacks.

“We’re hoping it will be a great success,” he said.

IRHA will meet at 7 tonight in the Knapp-Storms Commons. Gene Deisinger, program manager for the Department of Public Safety, will give a presentation on the possible use of tasers by DPS officers. The IRHA committee on food service will also make its presentation.

“There’s a tremendous amount of surveys and a lot of feedback from students about quality and . the service itself,” Duncan said.
