Two cars collide on Lincoln Way and Ash
November 16, 2001
Shards of glass littered the sidewalk at the intersection of Lincoln Way and Ash Avenue Thursday afternoon as a crowd of students stood at a railing, bent by the impact of a car.
A police report was not available at press time, and names have yet to be released.
A 17-year-old male was driving eastbound on Lincoln Way in a gray car when he collided with a white car turning right onto Lincoln Way from Ash Avenue.
The driver of the white car was sent to Mary Greeley Medical Center, but the extent of the injuries are unknown.
“There weren’t any real serious injuries,” said Ames Police Sgt. Mike Johns.
The driver of the gray car said he was uninjured.
“I’m shaky and I have a headache . I’m pretty sure I hit that,” he said, nodding toward the smashed up railing along the intersection’s curb, “because otherwise the bumper wouldn’t have fallen off.”
The driver of the gray car, who said the car was owned by his girlfriend, said he flipped his car in a ditch before, less than one month after he received his driver’s license.
“This is the second time I’ve been upside down,” he said.
