Cy’s Roost will be closing its doors after a number of violations, but when it reopens it will be under new ownership.

Cy’s Roost is waiting for the final word on the amount of time its liquor license will be revoked, after its violation for selling alcohol to a minor.

Patrick Greene, owner of Cy’s Roost & Don’s Deli, 121 Welch Ave., and Lost & Found Lounge, 121 1/2 Welch Ave., will lose his license to sell liquor in Cy’s Roost for 90 days or more.

However, Andrew White, owner of the Tip Top Lounge, 201 E. Lincoln Way, and Paddy’s Irish Pub and Sips, 124 Welch Ave., said he will be taking over ownership of Cy’s Roost & Don’s Deli.

Judy Parks, assistant attorney for the city of Ames, said the city has just learned of this exchange.

“Any transaction between the buyer and the seller will not involve us,” she said. “As it presently stands now, the pending revocation will not affect the new license holder.”

When the bar changes hands, Parks said, the new owner will be able to seek a new license. However, the sale of alcohol may not be allowed on the premises, regardless of the owner.

“There is a provision in the law that when a license holder has several fines, the revocation can be placed on the premises as well,” she said.

As it stands now, the charges will not affect the new owner, Parks said.

“However, I can’t speculate on what will happen,” she added.

Parks said the fines and pending revocation of the license still stands for the current license holder, Greene, even if the property is sold in the near future.

White said the premises will have to close the doors for three months, regardless of the owner, because the revocation still stands on the premises.

“The doors will be closed for a period of time,” he said. “It still has to be closed down before I can open it up.”

However, White said it is his understanding that the city is considering an appeal for the revocation.

“It is all in limbo right now until a decision is made,” he said.

White said at some point after the decision is made he can go ahead with the purchase.

“I definitely will be purchasing it,” he said. “It’s just a matter of when.”

If the city does accept the appeal, White said a hearing will be held, and then he may purchase the bar.

Cy’s Roost & Don’s Deli and Lost & Found Lounge are all considered one business, so White said he will have ownership of all of them.
