LETTER:IRHA up to same wacky tactics

Chris Knight

IRHA has passed legislation that has the possibility of pushing smokers away from the buildings. Open Monday’s Daily and you’ll see that they are thinking about taking away student government passes and most of the Resident Hall staff parking. They also plan to make a tiered system, but they say people who are IRHA representatives should still have spots. My guess would be that those spots will be the closest to the buildings.

Have leaders in IRHA become so lazy that they can’t walk half a block to their own vehicle? What about the staff? Should they take the bus? That doesn’t make any sense. We would be promoting student health by letting them get some more exercise.

In the bill it mentions “preference by classification,” so the freshmen that have to work off-campus, because they couldn’t find an on-campus job or don’t want to work foodservice, now have to walk a long distance because they are unfortunately freshmen. Will the next thing IRHA pass be “Juice Bill, second edition?” Our leaders shouldn’t be doing things because they want it for themselves. Their job is to help the students that live in their building. A better way to improve the parking situation is to put up section signs so you can find your car without having to go row by row.

Does this sound like segregation?

Is the modern day equivalent of African-Americans riding in the back of the bus the same as smokers having to be 50 feet away from the building, and if you don’t have $80 you’ll be a half mile away from your building? I thought we had enough selfishness last year with the juice bill. I had hoped this year IRHA would actually try to represent students’ concerns.
