LETTER: Martial Arts article disappointing
October 17, 2001
I am very happy to see the martial arts getting the great press they received in the “Respect of an Art” article in the Oct. 17 Daily.
I am, however, sorely disappointed in the reporting, particularly with the first line of the article: “The three ISU martial arts clubs .”
There are six recognized martial arts clubs in the sports club council and numerous small groups around campus that do various martial arts.
The three other active clubs are the ISU Tae Kwon Do club, ISU Kum Do club and the ISU Shotokan Karate club. I find this error particularly egregious since the Daily ran an article on the Shotokan Karate club getting accepted as a club in the Sept. 17 Daily.
All of the sport club council clubs Web sites can be reached through the SCC Web site, http://www.scc.iastate.edu.
The martial arts are a great way for any student to better themselves and I encourage anyone interested in exploring the martial arts to check out any or all of these clubs.
Each club has a slightly different focus and feel to it.
There is likely to be a club to fit each person’s wants and needs.
