Huskers pound Cyclones
October 6, 2001
-LINCOLN, Neb. – It didn’t take long for the ISU football team to fall
behind to Nebraska here Saturday and in typical fashion, the
Huskers poured it on in a 48-14 victory.
-The fourth-ranked Huskers raced to a 20-0 lead after the first
quarter and never looked back in a battle of Big 12 North
unbeatens. The loss drops the Cyclones to 3-1, snapping a six
game winning streak dating back to last year.
-After the successful first quarter, it only got better for the Huskers
who tacked on three more touchdowns in the second quarter to
take a 41-0 halftime lead. Husker quarterback Eric Crouch scored
four touchdowns while defensive back Keyou Craver gave the
Huskers their first score on a 57-yard interception return for a
touchdown only two minutes into the contest.
-“It was complete domination by Nebraska in the first half,” ISU
head coach Dan McCarney said. “The turnovers killed us and
Nebraska really disrupted us defensively. We can’t have these
kind of disasterous halves like we did tonight.”
-The Cyclones tallied 336 yards of total offense. Quarterback
Seneca Wallace finished 13-of-29 for 214 yards, one touchdown
and two interceptions. Big 12 leading rusher Ennis Haywood
managed 61 yards on 20 carries.
