Des Moines art collector Mary Pappajohn will be speaking primarily about what she has collected in the past 20 years during her “A collector of Modern Art” lecture Sunday at 2 p.m.

“She will be highlighting the works from the John and Mary Pappajohn Art Foundation collection,” said Rachel Hampton, information and collections manager for the University Museums. “Pappajohn will discuss how she and her husband have developed an extensive modern art collection that reflects their own passions and intellect.”

“For several years, she and her husband have been among the top 200 art collectors in the world according to ARTNews Magazine,” said Dana Michels, curator at the University Museums.

“The Pappajohns currently have five paintings in Brunnier in the `Abstraction in Iowa Collection,'” Michels said.

Pappajohn is currently serving as chair of the Des Moines Art Center Acquisitions Committee, Hampton said.

The Pappajohns have been very supportive of Iowa Sate, Hampton said.

“She and her husband recently contributed five million to the Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Centers at five colleges in the state of Iowa,” she added.

Pappajohn’s lecture is hosted by ISU President Gregory Geoffroy and the University Museums. The lecture is free and open to the public.
