Impact of national tragedy at ISU

As a result of incidents today, Sept. 11, Iowa State University is releasing the following information:
– Iowa State University will observe a moment of silence at noon today (Sept. 11), followed by a tolling of the campanile bells.
– The federal government has directed the closing of its facilities on campus. These include Wilhelm Hall, Metals Development Building, Spedding Hall and Technical and Administrative Services Facility (TASF), all of the Ames Laboratory of the U.S. Department of Energy; and the National Soil Tilth Laboratory and National Swine Research and Information Center of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
-ÿThe ISU Student Counseling Service is open for any students needing assistance. Hours will be extended through 8 p.m. Sept. 11 and 12. After 8 p.m., students should call the Richmond Center Hotline at 232-5811 or the Dean of Students Office, 231-6483.
-ÿThe Iowa Concern Hotline, operated by ISU Extension, has stress counselors available 24 hours a day; phone 1-800-447-1985 (for the hearing-impaired, 1-800-735-2942).
– University classes are continuing on a normal schedule.
– Iowa State has convened its Critical Incident Response Team, CIRT, to address any local issues or concerns.
– Iowa State will post additional information on its Web site, www.iastate.edu, as it becomes available.
