Musicians pull album cover art
In wake of the terrorist attacks of last week, several musicians have either recalled or halted production of cover art that people may find offensive or insensitive.
“Party Music,” the new album from rappers the Coup originally had artwork featuring one of the band’s members holding a bomb detonator in front of the World Trade Center.
Although the artwork was finalized months before the Sept. 11 tragedies, the group has decided to create a new album cover.
Eighties prog-rock band Dream Theater released an album on the same day as the attacks.
The album’s cover art shows the city of New York, including the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building and World Trade Center, covered in flames.
Elektra, the band’s label, said that it has issued a recall on the already-sold copies of the album.
In addition to music, TV also altered its schedule.
The Fox network was slated to show the Will Smith sci-fi flick “Independence Day” this weekend, but has elected to show “Mrs. Doubtfire” instead.
Other networks plan similar changes.
Rappers sentenced in cocaine case
Rappers and identical twins David and Daniel Garcia, better known as Kane & Abel, were sentenced to three years in a federal prison last week.
The sentencing was in connection with a cocaine bust last year.
The brothers admitted to officials that they lied about the activities of Richard Pena, the head of a major drug ring.
The Garcias were sentenced to the maximum penalty. The minimum is 21 months. They plan to appeal the ruling.
The brothers’ latest album, “Most Wanted Boys,” will debut as scheduled on Oct. 9.
Aaliyah tribute to be released
Rapper-turned-producer Timbaland has announced that he will release the Beck-Aaliyah collaboration “I’m Music,” in November.
According to MTV News, he called the release “the biggest song I ever did,” and said it would “shock the world.”
Earlier in the year, Timbaland and Beck joined forces to cover David Bowie’s “Diamond Dogs” for the “Moulin Rouge” soundtrack.
