I would like to comment on the article “Second forum brings mixed views, emotions” that was printed in the Sept. 21, Daily.

I think the Daily’s coverage of the story was not fair to the individual who asked Prof. Riad Mahayni about a verse from the Qur’an. I am a member of the Turkish community in Ames and have served as the president of Turkish Student Association at ISU.

I have known that individual for years and he also is a member of our organization. He helped our community (a Muslim community) in a variety of ways on several occasions. I believe I can speak for our community when I say that he has never been a person who would try to discredit the Muslim community as he is considered a valuable friend among us. Riad Mahayni could have simply tried to explain the verse and prevented the occurrence of such an incident. I believe he is also responsible for proving his accusations against that individual.
