Daily can’t force conservatives to work for them
September 27, 2001
In response to Nate Headrick’s letter regarding the Daily’s left-wing stance on “every issue,” I propose that you are either part of the problem or part of the solution.
It is outrageous to expect Daily writers to write from a conservative perspective for the sake of non-liberals. The Daily can not force Libertarians, Republicans, Independents, Liberals and Socialists to write merely for the sake of “balance.” Clearly there is no such thing as balance in the media.
If you feel there is another viewpoint to be expressed, start writing for the Daily and express it, Mr. Headrick.
As for the notion of the United States bombing innocent people, I am utterly amazed that a senior in history can so readily forget that innocent lives are always lost in war.
Saying that the United States carrying out acts of war on Afghanistan, be it with special forces, ground troops or bombs, would kill no innocent people is as blasphemous as saying no innocent people died on Sept. 11th when bin Laden’s kamikazes attacked the United States.
The people in those buildings were not the ones bin Laden and his fanatics were being oppressed and imposed upon by. Likewise, the population of Afghanistan is not the militant, anti-freedom war-monger you would like to see it as.
And anyone who thinks that the federal government should have punished McVeigh by making him suffer misread the tenant of “cruel and unusual.”
If you really want “as much information as possible,” you should probably consider reading one of the numerous other newspapers available, courtesy of GSB. After all, you’re probably paying for them.
