Semitrailer dangles from bridge
September 19, 2001
A semitrailer dangled from the Interstate 35 bridge over the eastbound lanes of U.S. Highway 30 Wednesday morning, backing up traffic on the northbound interstate lanes.
According to the Iowa State Patrol report, the truck driver, Jimmy Neal, 44, of Des Moines, slammed on the brakes to miss a car that had switched lanes to avoid hitting a third vehicle about 6:40 a.m. Wednesday. Neither vehicle stopped.
The semi, a 1994 International tractor trailer, swerved into the median, crashed through the guardrail and got tangled in the bridge, according to the report.
Neal was not injured. The accident was property damage only.
