Tour canceled for safety reasons

An Arab music tour, “Desert Roses and Arabian Rythyms,” featuring Algerian singer Khaled, Egyptian pop artist Hakim, and Iranian crooner Andy, was postponed in light of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon.

Concert organizers were concerned about the safety of the musicians.

The tour may be rescheduled for January or February of 2002, according to Mondo Melodia, the label sponsoring the event.

Concert venues beef up security

Concert-goers may face more police officers and longer lines in the wake of the Sept. 11 attacks.

Even loading of equipment and backstage workers will be more highly scrutinized.

Some venues have banned all bags and purses, while others conduct thorough personal searches on patrons, using metal detectors and pat-downs.

Morissette/Popper benefit canceled

Because of the Sept. 11 tragedy, a Washington D.C. pro-life benefit concert has been canceled by promoters.

Alanis Morissette and Blues Traveler’s John Popper were slated to play the show. The event has not yet been rescheduled, according to promoters.
