Another day that will live in infamy

Michael Falkstrom

“This is a day that will live in infamy.” – words spoken by Franklin Delano Roosevelt some 60 years ago. These words apply to the attacks we face now. Doubtless this will change the nature of how we see ourselves, our security and the world at large.

I have heard some urge that we pull back within our borders, that we disengage from the world to ensure our own security.

If we listen to them, then ten thousand or more Americans have just died in vain. If we disengage now, we have bowed to the wishes of the terrorists, who wish to see America out of the world at large. If we leave our friends, our allies, our fellow human beings alone in the world, the terrorists have won.

We have seen in our own home what thousands, millions, of our fellow men have experienced worldwide. Rwanda, Kosovo, the Middle East, Afghanistan; and now the United States.

It’s not time to leave the world, but to take a moral stand. It is time to rid the world of terrorism and those who would use the tactics of terror.

It is time for us to use our unprecedented power to defend ourselves and others worldwide. We have been shown, that for our sake as well as others we must live up to the words spoken of the Holocaust – “Never Again!”
