Reuniting with a former assistant

Lance Irvin, a former member of Larry Eustachy’s first coaching staff, has been hired as an assistant men’s basketball coach at Iowa State.

Irvin played for and coached with Eustachy at Idaho and was also a former assistant coach at DePaul and Loyola-Chicago.

A native of Chicago, Ill., Irvin played one season for Eustachy’s first team in Moscow, Idaho, before becoming a graduate assistant with the team in 1991.

Irvin served as an assistant coach from 1992-1997 at DePaul.

While there, he served under head coach Joey Meyer and was credited with helping lead DePaul to the NCAA tournament in 1992.

After his stint at DePaul, Irvin spent a year as an assistant at Chicago’s Carver High School before moving on to Loyola-Chicago where he spent three years before accepting the ISU job.

During his time at Loyola-Chicago, Irvin served as the primary recruiting coordinator for head coach Larry Farmer.

The 32-year-old Irvin and his wife, Paula, have one daughter, Brooklyn.
