A state of shock
August 29, 2001
You were probably as shocked as we were when you read the
front page story regarding a female ISU student who was allegedly
kidnapped and sexually assaulted in broad daylight Tuesday.
One always thinks “It couldn’t happen to me” or “It couldn’t happen
here in Central Iowa,” but if these allegations turn out to be true, it
can happen here.
The fact that the alleged kidnapping occured in broad daylight in a
hectic part of campus makes chances someone witnessed some
questionable activity more likely.
We encourage anyone who saw anything or even thinks they saw
anything to come forward immediately. The perpetrators need to
be apprehended immediately and, if charged with the crime, be
punished for what may be the most cowardly act imaginable.
Someone had to have seen something. It was 11 a.m. in the
morning in a part of campus with a high number of students. It
was reported that the victim claimed there were plenty of students
around when the alleged crime took place.
If there is someone out there with even a hint of knowledge
concerning the alleged crime, please come forward.
Not only will you be aiding in the investigation, you will be doing a
great service to yourself and the entire ISU community.
