Jaromir Jagr traded to Washington Caps

The Pittsburgh Penguins traded seven-time All-Star Jaromir Jagr to the Washington Capitals for three prospects Wednesday.

Jagr, a five-time scoring champion, is coming off a stellar year in which he led the Penguins all the way to the Eastern Conference finals.

The Capitals previously tried to sign other big-name free agents, such as Jeremy Roenick, Pierre Turgeon and Doug Weight, before getting Jagr.

One more year at Duke for Boozer

Duke University center Carlos Boozer will return to school for one more season, The Charlotte Observer reported.

Boozer, the starting center on last year’s national champions, averaged 13.3 points and 6.5 rebounds per game as a sophomore.

Earlier this year point guard Jason Williams announced similar plans; graduating early after next season.

Raptors lock up Davis for five years

The Toronto Raptors have come to terms with forward Antonio Davis. The five-year deal, worth over $60 million, can’t be officially announced until July 18 because of NBA salary cap rules.

The 6-foot-9 Davis had been courted by several teams this off-season, including the Chicago Bulls and the Orlando Magic.

The Magic didn’t have enough salary cap room to match Toronto’s offer.

Davis, 33, spent six years with the Indiana Pacers before being traded to Toronto prior to the 1999-2000 season.
