Ankeny to hold disc golf tourney
Ankeny’s Heritage Park will play host to the Ankeny Summerfest Heritage Park Disc Golf Tournament.
To make things fair, there will be categories to divide ages and skill groups.
Youth categories up to age 16 and beginning adults will play on Saturday, July 14th, with registration starting at noon, and play beginning at 1 p.m.
Amateurs, masters and women will play on Sunday, with registration from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Play will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Every paid entrant receives a special disc, and prizes will be awarded for first through fifth place for the amateurs and youth, and first through fourth place for the advanced players.
The entry fee for youth and novice is $10, and for advanced and women, the fee is $18.

Bowl team to meet for reunion
Iowa State’s 1971 Sun Bowl football team will meet for its 30 year reunion on November 10. .
It will be the weekend of the Colorado football game.
The head coach of the Sun Bowl Team, Johnny Majors, will be attending the reunion.

ISU ranked 57th in preseason poll
The Iowa State football team has been ranked 57th in the country in a pre-season poll by Athlon Sports magazine.
The Cyclones are predicted by the magazine to be 4-0 before their early October meeting with Nebraska, who was ranked No. 2 by Athlon.
The football team is coming off its first bowl game victory in school history, and finished the season with a 9-3 record, the first time they have won nine games since 1906.
Athlon picked the Florida Gators as the top team in college football.
Davis cut from CFL’s Tiger-Cats
Former ISU football star Troy Davi, was cut Saturday by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League.
Davis joined the Tiger-Cats after three seasons with the NFL’s New Orleans Saints and a year off from football.
He played two pre-season games before being cut.
Davis is a former All-American and Heisman Trophy runner-up for the Cyclones.
