ISU students rude, profane
June 25, 2001
As most of you are aware, Iowa State is conducting orientation for its new fall students.
This event is the University’s chance to show both students and parents that they have made a good decision in choosing Iowa State.
Today, while I was standing outside Carver Hall next to a group of parents, a couple students stopped nearby to have a conversation.
Their discussion was something to the effect of “Fu** this, and fu** that, and I hate this fu**ing bull****.”
I noticed that many of the parents overheard this conversation, and were trying hard not to blush.
I felt embarrassed for Iowa State and I imagine that some of the parents were asking themselves the questions – “Did we make the right choice?” and “Is this how students act at Iowa State?”
I believe that most of us here enjoy the experience that ISU gives, and for many of you, this need not apply.
Everyone has bad days, and it’s only natural to vent to friends about it.
But please, when you see a group of parents and students attending orientation (the bright red bags will undoubtedly give them away) – try to make a good impression. Make them happy that they chose Iowa State.
