ISU soccer recruit total reaches 10

The ISU women’s soccer team has added three new recruits to bring the 2001 recruiting class total to 10.

Jenny Orellana, Megan Strom and Britnay Rolling have all committed to the Cyclone soccer program.

Orellana hails from Downey, Calif. and has competitive experience at the junior college level.

She led her Long Beach City College team to the California State JUCO Championship while earning team offensive MVP honors a season ago.

Strom, a St. Paul, Minn. native, earned playing time with both her Central High squad and as a member of the five-time state cup champion Blackhawks club team.

While at Central, she earned all-conference honors three times while captaining her squad.

Iowa State has also added a goalkeeper to its recruiting class.

Rolling, a College Grove, Minn. native, earned first-team all-state honors while playing in the net.

She also earned team MVP honors for Park High while receiving all-conference honors.

Former Cyclone returns to Ames

Iowa State University will soon have strong ties to the Ames High School Athletic Department.

Former Cyclone, Pat Heiderscheit has been hired as the new athletic director at Ames High.

Heiderscheit graduated from Iowa State with a B.S. in elementary education in 1988 while also serving as a member of the ISU baseball team.

After his career at Iowa State, Heiderscheit spent two seasons with the Montreal Expos’ minor league organization before serving a two-year stint as a pitching coach.

Heiderscheit received a master’s degree in educational leadership from Winona State University.
