Sanderson, Bono win at nationals

Cyclone wrestler Cael Sanderson and assistant coach Chris Bono won national freestyle wrestling titles over the weekend.

The titles qualified both wrestlers for the United States team that will compete at the World Wrestling Championships in New York Sept. 26-29.

Sanderson won the title at 187.5 pounds while Bono competed at 152 pounds.

ISU golfer wins tournament titleISU sophomore golfer Sarah Gilbert won the Women’s City Championship Sunday in Des Moines at Waveland golf course.

Gilbert overcame a 2-shot deficit to 1998 champion Therese Morgan at the start of the day, and finished 1-under-par with a 71.

Griebel finishes in top 5 at U.S. Championships

ISU senior Lisa Griebel finished fifth in the women’s shot put at the U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore.

Three former Cyclones also competed at the event.

Zech Schiebout finished 17th in the men’s discus throw.

Jamie Beyer finished eighth in the men’s shot put.

Andy Long finished 6th in his heat in the 110 meter hurdles, and did not advance past the preliminaries.

ISU student sinks hole in one

Iowa State student Kolby Beemer sank a hole in one at Veenker Memorial Golf Course on June 18.

He hit an eight iron 157 yards on the eighth hole.

The ball went in to the hole with no bounce.

Beemer is a senior in animal ecology.
