Griebel, Beyer secure spots in university games

ISU track athletes Lisa Griebel and Jamie Beyer used impressive finishes at the United States Track and Field Championships to secure spots in the World University Games in Beijing, China, Aug. 27-Sept. 1.

The United States team consists of the top two collegiate finishers in each event at the U.S. Championships held last weekend.

Both athletes qualified in the second spot for the games.

Griebel, a Sioux Falls, S.D. native, finished fifth overall in the women’s shotput at the Championships while Beyer finished eighth in the men’s shotput.

Eustacy, others rally at capital

ISU head men’s basketball coach, Larry Eustachy, traveled to Washington D.C. on Wednesday along with other college coaches, members of Congress and various university officials in support of a bill to end gambling on high school, college and Olympic sports.

The group, organized by the NCAA, rallied at the capital in support of the bill.

Speakers included, among others, Cedric Dempsey, president of the NCAA.
