Bourbon Street comes to Iowa

Des Moines area bar patrons now have another option in the local club scene.
Owners Matt Davis and Glenn Collignon have opened Vieux Carre, 1720 25th St., in conjunction with the Fat Tuesday chain in an attempt to bring the atmosphere of Bourbon Street to Iowa.
Davis, who also ran Gondola’s Night Club in Indianola, feels they will have no problem carving out a customer base.
“Des Moines has been waiting for a club like this,” Davis says.
Vieux Carre will attempt to add restaurant-style service to a club atmosphere.
“We offer a more service-oriented environment than the other clubs in town. You won’t be sitting at a table with an overflowing ashtray or waiting for beer cans to be cleared,” Davis says.
Jessica Emerson, a native of Casey, IA, says she feels Vieux Carre is unique.
“The best parts about Vieux Carre is the diversity of the crowd and the variety of the music played,” says Emerson, a Vieux Carre waitress.
Vieux Carre runs a superhits format, playing radio hits from the 70s to today. The club also features a dance floor, a DJ, a balcony and a laser light system.
Drink specials will be announced within the next few weeks, says Davis.
The decor is made to look like a Bourbon Street scene, a detail Davis believes will help attract customers.
“We really want people to feel comfortable and have a good time here,” Davis says. “You’ll feel like you’re walking right onto Bourbon Street.”
