`Godspell’ set to spellbound Ames
June 4, 2001
“Godspell,” the popular musical based on the book of Matthew in the Bible, is coming to Ames.
And regardless of religion or lack thereof, it will be a production for the whole family to enjoy.
The Ames-based acting troupe, ACTORS will be performing the play. Opening night is this Friday and the play is slotted to run through June 24.
” `Godspell’ first opened off-broadway in 1971,” says Music Director Mark Forbis. “Even though much of the show was written in the early `70s, much of the music remains timeless in its style and lyrics.”
Choreographer Kathy Norris says that the best thing about the show is that “everyone uses their own personality and helps contribute to the improvisation and choreography.”
The show is made up of 16 cast members. Ten of these members are actors and the other 6 make up the pit choir. There is also a 4 member band.
The actors come from various backgrounds, some with lots of experience and some making their debut.
“Everyone has to depend on everyone very heavily,” says Director Keith Wirtz. “They bring lots of their own ideas to the show.”
Tickets can be purchase at Big Table Books. Students and seniors are $11 and adults are $15.
