Fortune transfers to South Dakota
May 23, 2001
Zach Fortune started as a Cyclone but in fall he will be a Coyote.
Dave Boots, head basketball coach at the University of South Dakota, is looking forward to have Fortune on the team.
“We feel we have added several outstanding basketball players who have special skills and will be fine additions to our basketball program,” Boots said.
Fortune played in 12 games for the Cyclones before tearing his anterior cruciate ligament.
ISU assistant basketball coach Randy Brown said that USD will be a good situation for Fortune.
“I’ve coached at both levels and it’s a little bit different of an atmosphere,” Brown said. “There won’t be the huge crowds, fancy hotels, or anything like that, but it’s a great brand of basketball.”
Brown said that the ISU coaching staff wishes Fortune the best.
“As a freshman in this league, you just don’t play.” Brown said.
“It’s hard to know how he’s going to play coming off the injury he had, but he’s got a lot of skill and he’s got great coaches up there at USD.”
