Garman should fight for us, not against us
April 15, 2001
When I read the article in the front page of the Daily on Friday, “Legislator offended by Daily photo,” I was very disappointed.
This shows us how much our representatives care about us. Have we ever heard about this lady, Ms. Garman? No, but now we do, and not in a positive way.
I believe that her duty is to help the people of Ames.
Now we hear about her all of a sudden criticizing a picture in the March 19 issue of the Daily.
She is offended, because it was obscene, and she is worried that people under 18 will see that picture.
Please. Kids under 18 have seen more than that simple picture, which I don’t consider obscene at all; there are thousands of sites where they can go if they want to see obscene pictures.
Kids are not going to look at the Daily for that purpose.
Ms. Garman, why don’t you go to the state Capitol and fight for us instead of wasting your time trying to punish the Iowa State Daily?
After all, you are being paid to represent the city of Ames, and without us, the students, this city wouldn’t be the kind of place it is.
The state of Iowa is facing a budget crisis, and your fellow Republican legislators are the ones that want to hurt us, the students, because of their mistakes and irresponsible tax cuts.
Ms. Garman, please, if you are not going to help us deal with the budget cuts that are going to affect us dramatically, don’t get in our business to hurt us in any way.
Instead, go and do something to help us with the budget cuts, or help the swimming and the baseball teams.
