Science takes faith, too
April 23, 2001
It has always bothered me when I read an article and people are misrepresenting what science is.
Science is actually in the business of tearing apart previous research by trying to disprove a theory.
Theories can never be proven, only supported or disproven.
The evidence that is out there for the origin of life and how various species came about can be interpreted in many ways.
Evolution and creation are two of those ways.
To believe in either of them assuredly requires a certain amount of faith – faith in the research, faith in the scientist and faith in the theorists.
There is a controversy in science concerning this matter.
These questions are not just being posed by religious-types, but all manner of scientists are expressing their views on the issue.
“Darwin’s Black Box” by Michael Behe (PhD in biochemistry) is one book that was written by a man who makes no claims to creationism or religion of any nature.
This theory is as valid as any other and does not necessarily need to be seen as a faith-based theory.
I invite anyone who is interested in discussing this matter further to consider being a part of Students for Origins Research which addresses this question through a mailing list and lectures.
There are people from a wide variety of beliefs involved in this group.
E-mail [email protected] to get more information or to be added to the mailing list.
