Abortion not a faceless act

I, too, was surprised when I walked out of the library Wednesday morning to find, once again, protesters gracing the greens of central campus.

I personally did not see any of the graphic photos that many people commented on, but I have to say that the confrontational tactics used by these so-called Missionaries to the Preborn were for the most part ineffective and I do not agree with them.

I do agree with the message that abortion is wrong and life is sacred, but as I discussed these happenings with my brother on Wednesday, he had similar concerns to those of Daily columnist Jocelyn Marcus, in her April 6 column, “Thanks to `Missionaries’ for helping us pro-choicers,” that these graphic photos if seen by his kids would indeed be disturbing and probably lead to nightmares.

Something that I found interesting and somewhat disconcerting though is the comment in Friday’s Daily by Margaret Sloss Women’s Center employees that “those horrible, awful images made you not want to eat lunch. We weren’t used to seeing that.”

Yes, I’m sure they were awful pictures, but that’s what happens when a baby is aborted.

Babies die in a terrible way.

Those pictures should remind us that abortion is not a faceless act.

Maybe women planning to get an abortion should be shown those pictures as I think often times women take too flippant an attitude towards abortion.

I also disagree with the letter from Jason Griswold that asked. “Are they fighting sex before marriage, abortion, Nazis, Planned Parenthood and everything they stand for?”

I personally hold to the belief of no sex before marriage, but many others don’t.

I’m not going to condemn them, but I don’t condone their actions.

Pregnancy is a very real possibility as a result of having sex and people, both men and women, need to take responsibility for their actions.
