A disgusting sight
April 4, 2001
Whether pro-choice or pro-life, ISU students had something to be disgusted about Wednesday.
A couple dozen anti-abortion protesters from Wisconsin swarmed the ISU campus, passing out pamphlets, shouting and waving signs.
The protesters showed off photos and drawings of mutilated fetuses and condemned counter-protesters to hell.
Missionaries to the Preborn, as the group called itself, wasn’t above veering completely off-topic to condemn feminists and homosexuals.
Graphic illustrations and harsh rhetoric may draw attention to a group of people, but reason and logic change more minds.
Abortion is an issue Americans have argued about for years. Most people have made up their minds one way or the other.
Insults and anti-Planned Parenthood propaganda will not make more people support the pro-life cause.
Pro-lifers supposedly care about babies and the sanctity of life.
Fringe groups like the Missionaries to the Preborn and abortion-clinic bombers give their cause a violent, negative association.
The protesters Wednesday, who said an ally group broke into an abortion clinic to get the fetus photos, were not looking to use logic and facts to support their position on the abortion issue.
They were just looking to bring attention to themselves and call pro-choice supporters “whores” and “lesbians.”
Not only do radicals like these fail to aid their movement, they give the pro-life movement a bad name.
No matter what position they hold on abortion, all ISU students should be disgusted by the antics of the Missionaries to the Preborn.
To change people’s minds about an issue, you need to discuss the facts.
Calling your opponents “whores” and “babykillers” will not help your cause.
