Dining Hall Tyranny at Wallace-Wilson

Jonathon Lotz

For those current or future ISU students who will be living in either Wallace or Wilson Hall at Towers next school year, you might want to read this.

As of now, it appears that the Wallace-Wilson Dining Service will no longer be serving three meals a day. Rather, there will just be, dinner (caterings will be done out of that kitchen as well).

Now for breakfast and lunch, not to mention weekend meals, you will have to go to the Knapp-Storms Dining Services. That might not sound like a bad thing right now, but when winter arrives and you have to go over there for lunch it isn’t going to be fun at all, especially right after one of Iowa’s blizzard.

The head Food Service Manager, Carol Petersen, came up with this idea in order to save money, when we all know that there are better ways to cut money.

The full time employees will lose a sense of job security, and the facilities there will not be utilized as best as they could be.

A more reasonable alternative plan has been suggested and talked about by some employees there.

The plan is to send all the students over to Wallace-Wilson for all there meals and have Knapp-Storms do only caterings and leave the bakery over there open. Weekend meals are still open for suggestions, as Wallace-Wilson has never served on weekends.

It has been rumored that eventually the Knapp-Storm dining facility will be closed for good and just Wallace-Wilson will be opened. Why not start this now?

It appears that every Wallace-Wilson employee objects to the plan that Carol Petersen has come up with.

But these people are powerless to do anything about it, as their ideas apparently don’t mean much.

The plan doesn’t make sense and needs to be changed in order to serve the students better. The plan would be too much of an inconvenience for the students and employees.
