Housing fair connects students, apartments
April 3, 2001
Candy, pencils, floor plans and leases passed hands as students walked through the 14th Annual Housing Fair. The event was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.
The event was sponsored by Off Campus and Adult Student Services as a chance for students to look at several local housing providers in one place.
Penny Rosenthal, director of Off Campus and Adult Student Services, said she was disappointed with turn out early in the day, but optimistic more people would come out later.
“We have a transfer student orientation in the building today, so hopefully some of them will come in during their break,” she said.
The event brought many of the larger property management firms into one place for the students.
Alyssa Eddy, Professional Property Management, 201 S. 5th St., said her company has taken part in the fair for several years.
“We want to let students know what is available and see if we can help them,” she said.
Barb Parson, Hunziker Property Management, 105 S. 16th St., said her company has also been a part of the housing fair for several years. She said the company has several fall openings left.
“Everything’s just getting started, but everything’s starting to fill up, especially around campus,” she said.
Lori Hinze, graduate student in agronomy, was one of the students looking for a new place to stay this fall.
“I want a place with some utilities paid, close to CyRide,” she said.
Students who could not attend Tuesday’s event can get more information from the Off Campus and Adult Student services office in B6 of the Memorial Union.
