Are we suppose to be smiling about the April 17 cartoon featuring the “Nigerian child-slave ship”?

I do not see anything funny about the cartoon whatsoever.

What was the purpose of the cartoon, if I may ask?

If you really know the effect of slavery or what it meant to be enslaved, you will think twice before you painted your grim image.

Slavery, either in practice or in ideology, is not a laughing matter.

It is violation of human rights to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness.

In my opinion, your cartoon message added to enormous negative acuity and disdain that the continent of Africa has to put up with from the Western world.

Is this the way of encouraging diversity and bringing international awareness to our campus?

I cannot recall a time in my years at Iowa State when I actually read something positive or well documented about Africa in the Daily. Was that because nothing worthwhile ever happen in Africa or just because “good news is no news?”

A good journalist or cartoonist must be able to know his/her subjects thoroughly before making a headline.

According to CNN.com the perceived ship was SPOTTED in Nigeria. Does that imply that the ship was originated in Nigeria?

Of course, I would not have felt better if you had titled it with another country’s name. Had you researched your topic, you would have known that the “slave ship” sighting was unfounded.

I could care less if David Horowitz found out.
