Skutnik will pass the gavel tonight
April 18, 2001
The Inter-Residence Hall Association will close out the year with a ceremonial passing of the gavel during their meeting tonight. The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the Gallery Room of the Memorial Union.
IRHA Vice President Steve Skutnik said he has accomplished all he set out to do this year with IRHA.
“I’ve helped IRHA become a much more efficient legislative body,” he said. “I got IRHA onto a system of e-voting which produced record voter turnout numbers.”
Skutnik also said he has gotten several agreements underway with the Department of Residence, including changes in the storage policy and a clarification of the visitation policy regarding opposite-gender guests.
“I believe we’ve made a lot of progress towards mutual understanding and open dialogue with DOR,” he said. “We’ve had quite a bit of cooperation with us on their part, something which I think was unprecedented in prior years.”
After his farewell address, Skutnik will officially pass the gavel to current Union Drive Association At-Large David Boike.
Skutnik said Boike will do an excellent job because of his commitment to issues such as the Internet cap and his experience with various operating reforms.
UDA President Rick Cordaro said he has worked with Boike closely this year, and he is the best candidate for the job of IRHA vice president.
“Dave is really responsible and hard working; he always listens to his constituents and knows his stuff,” Cordaro said.
Jeff Greiner, current UDA vice president and UDA president-elect, said he thinks Boike will do a good job as vice president.
“I have every confidence in Dave,” he said. “As a previous IRHA vice president, I know what it entails, and I know he’ll do great.”
Boike will add an item to special orders. The bill is a parliament order endorsing John Shertzer, graduate assistant in leadership development in residence life, as the next coordinator for residence life. If Shertzer is appointed, he will be next year’s IRHA adviser.
Skutnik said old business includes a parliament order ratifying the storage policy agreement.
