Hawthorn payments to be resolved today
April 26, 2001
Questions about the payment of subcontractors at Hawthorn Court are in the process of being resolved.
An issue arose concerning the construction of Hawthorn Court after it became known that subcontractors working on the building project were not receiving their payments from the main contracting company.
DiCarlo Construction Company, based out of Kansas City, Mo., failed to make payments to local subcontractors after they ran into some financial problems, said Dean McCormick, engineer in facilities, planning and management.
The missed payments had no affect on the construction of Hawthorn Court, which is continuing as planned, he said.
“At this point we still anticipate the project will be completed for occupancy on schedule,” McCormick said. “We’re optimistic that in the next couple of weeks this will be brought to a resolution and the subcontractors will get paid their past due amounts.”
In order to make payments, DiCarlo Construction was working with their bonding company and other available financial resources to keep the project moving forward, he said.
“We’re more concerned that people get paid than where the money comes from,” McCormick said.
He said subcontractors working on Hawthorn Court were prepared to take whatever action necessary to protect their interests.
“Right now everyone is continuing to work with the goal of finishing the project on schedule,” McCormick said.
As of Thursday, some subcontractors received payments, he said, and the situation is moving towards a positive resolution.
Mitchell DiCarlo, president of DiCarlo Construction Company, said the pending issues will be resolved by Friday evening.
“To our knowledge all the significant issues on the project have been resolved, and we should be able to move forward without any further difficulty,” he said.
The job is still on schedule, DiCarlo said, and the company plans to deliver the project in accordance with their contract.
“Checks for the overdue amount have been written and will be available before the closing of the day on Friday,” he said.
