Peep Land photos inappropriate
April 11, 2001
I am writing in response to an article that appeared on page 6 in the Daily on March 19.
I respect your right to print any article about any subject matter you choose; however, I also believe you have a responsibility to your readers, the university and your community.
The article I am referring to, “Ames’ adult entertainment increases with second store,” addresses the Ames adult-entertainment community and the expansion of Peep Land to 520 S. Duff Ave. The picture of the young woman accompanying the article was extremely offensive and very improper for young people to view.
Surely your staff reviews material before printing, and I can’t believe anyone would find this image to be appropriate for a widely distributed university newspaper.
This type of controversial material can only bring more scrutiny to the Daily and questions about the ISU community as a whole.
I can only share the disappointment I feel that you and your staff would allow such obviously unacceptable material to be associated with your print media.
