Four Cyclones named to the All-Big 12 team

Four ISU women’s basketball players were honored for their play by being placed on the 2001 All-Big 12 Conference Women’s Basketball Team.
Junior center Angie Welle was a first-team selection, senior Megan Taylor was named to the second team, Lindsey Wilson was selected on the third team in her first year as a starter and junior Tracy Gahan was given honorable mention.
Welle, who was tabbed preseason player of the year in the Big 12, is making her third appearance on the All-Big 12 team. She averages a double-double this season grabbing 10.1 boards per game and scoring 18.1 points per game.
Taylor, a forward/guard from Roseau, Minn., earned second team honors this year, averaging 14.3 points per game and 6.1 rebounds.
Taylor became the Cyclones all-time leading rebounder this season in her final home game against Texas A&M and has been named to the all-conference team in each of her four seasons at Iowa State.
Wilson, who is filling the point guard position left by All-American Stacy Frese, has started all 27 games this season and is pouring in 14.9 points per game on the season. She increases her scoring average during Big 12 Conference play to 16.4.
Wilson is the team leader in assists as she has dished out 142 this season and is tied for second on the team in steals with 25.
Gahan is making her first appearance on the all-conference team. Gahan improved her numbers from last season, increasing her scoring average to 12.3 points per game, and she ranks second on the team in rebounding average with 7.6.
The all-conference first-team was made up of Welle, Oklahoma’s Stacy Dales, Sheila Lambert and Danielle Crockrom from Baylor and Amanda Lassiter from Missouri.
The second-team consisted of Taylor, LaNeishea Caufield from Oklahoma, Texas A&M’s Jaynetta Saunders, Plenette Pierson from Texas Tech and Caton Hill, also from Oklahoma.
Joining Wilson on the third-team were Colorado players Mandy Nightingale and Jenny Roulier, Texas Tech’s Katrisa O’Neal and Nicole Ohlde from Kansas State.
Oklahoma’s Dales was named the Conference Player of the Year and her coach, Sherri Coale, was named Coach of the Year after leading the Sooners to the Big 12 crown.
Newcomer of the Year honors went to Baylor’s Lambert and Freshman of the Year was KSU’s Ohlde.
