Shame on Legislature for closing records
March 20, 2001
After ISU students graduate, they get phone solicitations to donate money back to Iowa State. The ISU Foundation manages the phone solicitations and your donations.
This letter is to support the opening of the foundation’s expenditure records to the public. Almost all of the faculty and staff at Iowa State agree that this is wise. Students and the public at large likely feel the same way.
We were disappointed with state Rep. David Millage’s, R-Bettendorf, subcommittee that killed a bill to open these records. It’s time the legislature approved a bill that opens most of the financial records of the ISU Foundation while guaranteeing anonymity to the small group of donors who wish it.
Shouldn’t the ISU administration voluntarily make this information available before legislation, litigation or scandal results?
