Cyclones fall to UNC Greensboro in weekend finale

In the final game of the JoAnne Graf Classic, the Iowa State softball team lost to the University of North Carolina Greensboro Spartans, 8-4.

On Friday, the Cyclones defeated the Spartans 4-2.

Senior Emma Hylen made her third start of the season at pitcher for the Cyclones on Sunday.

Junior shortstop, Sami Williams hit her first home run of the season in the bottom of the first inning to give the Cyclones an early 1-0 lead.

The Spartans would score two runs each in the third and fourth to take the lead from the Cyclones.

In the bottom of the fifth, Williams hit a two-RBI double and scored later in the inning to tie the game 4-4.

Going into the sixth inning, the Cyclones had the momentum. However, the Spartan offense went off in the top of the sixth inning.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Spartans had four hits and had three batters get on base by either being hit by a pitch or being walked. The Spartans scored four runs in the top of the sixth inning to give them an 8-4 victory of the Cyclones.

The Cyclones went 1-4 in the JoAnne Graf Classic.

The Cyclones will be back in action on Friday in Palo Alto, California, in the DeMarini Invitational with a doubleheader against the Colorado State Rams and the Stanford Cardinal.
