It is not easy being a minority student at Iowa State. The unique needs of these students are sometimes overlooked or misunderstood by other students and faculty — but not intentionally. A purpose of special population seats on Government of the Student Body is to make sure the voice of those students is heard.The special population seats on GSB help add diversity. The vote on a bill from speciality seat senator helps make sure that the minority population’s needs are met.A few days from now, most students will have forgotten this issue, but the students who are in the minority will not have. Minority students continue to find avenues of communication that will maximize their college experience. Our community here is not just to serve the bigger group — it is here for all.When casting your vote in the GSB elections, please give thought to Iowa State’s minority students, too.
