International council serves 26,845 students
March 9, 2001
In his March 7 letter, “Who really represents international students?” Shu Tosaka was indirectly criticizing the International Student Council.
Until now, I, as the international senator, have been working with ISC and trying to contact international students through the international student organizations. This may not be the best way to contact the international community; also, this is the reason I couldn’t reach individuals like Mr. Tosaka.
As a result we decided to create an e-mail list, so that we could reach as many international students as possible. And we are trying to improve this and get as many international students as possible involved in everything we do. I try to act as a liaison between Government of the Student Body and ISC.
How can I contact all my constituents or the people I am trying to serve? Through house meetings like the residence hall senators? Well, I could do this, but which house on campus would I start from? Actually, when you think about it, it JUST MAKES SENSE that the residence hall senators go to the house meetings.
I am very sorry if we haven’t reached some individuals by any means with any activity we do on campus. We are working very hard to improve our services for the ISU community. I never claimed to represent 2,516 international students.
Unfortunately, there is too much politics involved on this campus, and you have to think twice before speaking (I wish everybody did this before criticizing).
However, I feel very comfortable when I say that ISC serves about 26,845 students on this campus.
