GSB leaders: Specialty seats needed
March 2, 2001
This year, the students of Iowa State face a unique and difficult question of determining the future of our student senate specialty seats. Throughout the past three years on Government of the Student Body we have seen the true value of these student representatives. The breadth of experience that is brought to our small group of 40 senators by these four positions is extremely necessary in making those GSB decisions that affect all aspects of the student body. Our specialty senators have opened our eyes to the experience of being a student in addition to being 45 years old or 6,000 or more miles from home. Specialty senators have shown us the importance of understanding the difficulties of acclimating to a climate that has very few minority students and a school that is not designed to serve students with disabilities. It is this perspective that is essential in making decisions in student government. We have both learned and grown through this exposure to different opinions. In one week, you will decide the fate of these specialty seats. We encourage you to VOTE NO on the constitutional referendum. Ben GoldingGSB president
