AmesMall virus alert

Cody Pfau

I am writing this letter in regards to the e-mail virus sent to me by the AmesMall newsletter computer.

On Saturday, March 24, I received my weekly AmesMall newsletter.

However, I also got a second message that contained an attached .exe file.

Smelling something fishy, I immediately deleted the message, only to later find out that it indeed was a virus.

I just wonder how it came to be that I – and everyone else at Iowa State – was signed up for this mailing list, that I never read anyway, only to be sent viruses.

If the people at AmesMall are not smart enough to watch their own computer for viruses, they should not be sending e-mails to everyone on campus.

I think that this should call for some kind of reform.

And, even though I did not open the virus program, I’m sure that some students did, and I don’t understand why he or she should be responsible for fixing it.

And I would like to warn anyone who hasn’t checked their e-mail accounts lately, delete the message with the attachment.
