Disturbing intercourse

Peter Fuerst

After reading the Daily’s editorial section yesterday I was once again taken aback by the lack of consistency in discourse. One writer was upset at being grouped with members of the same religion who have views he differs with. A few lines later he describes a song he likes, talking of the salvation of his god as being for prostitutes, rapists, drunkards and gays. While it might seem to him that this is a very generous thing for his god to do, he apparently misses the point that it groups gays with drunkards, prostitutes and rapists (or for that matter prostitutes and drunkards with rapists). While I understand that the interpretation of Christianity he ascribes to might see the similarities between these groups as quite obvious, I am surprised he would miss the offense in a piece devoted to his dislike of being lumped in with an unsavory lot. I understand that different people have different experiences and view points and I am not arguing for or against any particular belief system. I only ask that people reflect a moment so as to not recapitulate whatever injustice they feel has come their way.Peter Fuerst
